Shades of Black Ring Necklace, 2015
‘Layer upon layer the enamel encapsulates the rings, obscuring ‘the treasure beneath’. Suspended, trapped or rendered immobile, the rings not unlike the ones ‘offered’, become mere ornaments, an inseparable part of the chains that hold them together’. Silver Trace Chain, Copper Wire, Enamel. L89cm
Untitled Necklace, 2015
‘Using the humble church candle as the main material, this piece identifies and presently overcomes the ephemeral quality of wax. Vintage rings of various shape and size are covered in a layer of beeswax church candle. The wax encases the rings protectively, granting the wearer only glimpses, though overall obscuring ‘the treasure beneath’, which is their true identity. The rings aqcuire an almost uniformal appearance with the addition of a sealant which adds wearability, however ephemeral. The wearer is able to witness the changes in colour, shape and pattern that progresses slowly, to the evolving identity of the newly formed rings’.
